Brown University needed a large auditorium and music performance space near the heart of its historic campus. An ideal location for a new facility was found behind Rogers Hall, a 19th century brick building facing the College Green. A new 600-seat auditorium was designed to nestle into the existing slope with a 225-seat teaching space located below. The new construction employed a reinterpretation of the traditional brick and masonry detailing prevalent in the surrounding buildings, and a new loggia along a major campus thoroughfare gives scale to the largely windowless auditorium massing.
