Art Students League of New York
Vytlacil Campus Studio Residences
Sparkill, New York

The Art Students League of New York City has been an incubator of generations of up-and-coming artists. We were asked to design a new building to house a residency program on the League’s fifteen-acre, satellite campus in suburban Rockland County. Artists from around the world are selected for a two-month, working residency, housed in four apartments and work spaces with a common front porch and shared studio and gallery space. Raised on piers so as to disturb the site a little as possible, the building is accessed by a pedestrian bridge.
